Every Woman Matters: Akhundian Foundation Pakistan Takes Breast Cancer Awareness to Hamzigond
Hamzigond, District Kharmang, Baltistan
October 19, 2026
HAMZIGOND: Behind every healthy family is a community that values the health and well-being of its women.
With this belief at the heart of its humanitarian mission, Akhundian Foundation Pakistan organized a breast cancer awareness session in Hamzigond on October 19, 2026.
The session was conducted under the Foundation's Village-to-Village Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, an initiative dedicated to reaching women in the remote mountain settlements of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Understanding the Challenge
For many women in rural Baltistan, obtaining specialized medical advice may require traveling significant distances, arranging transportation, and managing financial and family responsibilities.
These barriers can delay medical consultations, particularly when symptoms are misunderstood or considered too sensitive to discuss.
Breast cancer awareness programs can play an important role in addressing these challenges by encouraging women to recognize symptoms and seek timely medical attention.
Education as a Form of Empowerment
The Hamzigond initiative emphasized the importance of breast health knowledge, including awareness of suspicious lumps, changes in breast shape or skin, and unusual nipple discharge.
The campaign encourages women to seek appropriate medical evaluation for concerning symptoms and to discuss screening options with healthcare professionals based on individual circumstances.
Protecting Mothers, Sisters, and Daughters
The Foundation's objective is not simply to organize awareness sessions, but to encourage a lasting change in how communities approach women's health.
When women receive accurate information and families become more supportive of medical consultation, communities are better positioned to reduce avoidable delays in diagnosis.
“A mother should never have to suffer in silence because the nearest source of reliable health information is too far away.”
Akhundian Foundation Pakistan expresses its commitment to continuing this important humanitarian effort in underserved villages.
